Anima: the creatures of Nexus Anima

Updated 2026-06-26.

Anima are the collectible creatures at the heart of Honkai: Nexus Anima. In the lore they are fragments of Nexus — the invisible bonds between paired forces such as Light and Dark, Love and Hate, and Life and Death. A cataclysm called the Sundering shattered those bonds, scattering their remnant power across the Planes as Anima.

What Anima do

Combat

Deploy in your Nexus Battles deck — the auto-battler.

Exploration

Roam the Planes with you and help solve puzzles.

Mounts & flight

Some can be carried, ridden or flown as companions.

Minigames

Join activities like racing and balloon-popping.

Photo & name

Snap photos of your Anima and give them names.

Chromatic

Rare shiny-style variants appear at random as you explore.

Beyond combat, Anima are woven into the open world — they roam freely, take part in activities and minigames (racing, balloon-popping and more), can be carried, mounted or used as flying companions, and you can even photograph and name them.

Bonding with Anima

You don't 'catch' Anima in the classic sense — you form bonds with them. Each Anima is tied to a specific concept and a set of powers, and you recruit and raise your roster as you explore.

Anima Evolution

As your bond with an Anima deepens it evolves, visibly changing form and gaining new abilities. The Evolution Test build frames each evolution as a story beat rather than a plain stat boost.

Chromatic Anima (rare variants)

Rare Chromatic Anima are the game's 'shiny'-style variants — special-colored creatures that can appear at random while you explore, adding a collectible rarity layer on top of the standard roster.

Nexus Battles — the auto-battler

Battles use an auto-battler / auto-chess system. Instead of a fixed party you build a deck of Anima and deploy it; an Animaster grants a starting buff, shared assist slots can heal or add damage, and Aspect-based synergies between your Anima decide the outcome once the fight runs automatically. See the characters and Aspects that pair with your Anima.
